April 13, 2010 -- An article in the Wellington Enterprise examined the increased number of Lorain County residents whose unemployment benefits are running out, and who are turning to local agencies for help. Prominent among the agencies highlighted was the Oberlin Community Center. Executive Director Linda Arbogast, who was quoted extensively in the article, discussed the significant increases in requests for food and utility assistance that OCS has witnessed.
"Increasingly we are seeing middle-income folks who are facing a job loss and are going through house foreclosure because of that," Arbogast said. "These are people who have never been in this situation before; they are just local people who are losing their jobs." She added that while need has risen, "federal support has dropped about 20 percent."
